Although
formerly designated in the Order Edentata, signifying "toothless",
only the anteaters lack teeth.
All
the anteaters have long rostra, very small mouths and long
tongues. The claws on their front paws are long and capable
of tearing apart termite mounds. The giant anteater is terrestrial,
whereas the Tamandua and Cyclopes are both terrestrial and
arboreal.
The
tree sloths are arboreal with long limbs, syndactylous toes
and large curved claws, with which they locomote and hang
suspended from trees. They are vegetarian, and have teeth
that are cylindrical and evergrowing
