Brain Preparation

The brain was removed from the skull after being perfused in situ by 10% saline followed by a mixture of formol-saline until the vessels were cleared of blood. The brain was allowed to harden in the skull for several hours and then was carefully removed from the skull so as to minimize damage to or compression of the brain tissue. This was accomplished by first carefully removing the surrounding skull by use of delicate rongeurs, spatula, forceps and scissors.
